    CACMID is an umbrella organization that began from a public health microbiology background over 70 years ago, and now has representation from the following groups: Canadian Society for International Health, Canadian Association of Medical Microbiologists, The Canadian Infectious Diseases Society, The Canadian Society of Microbiologists, The Canadian Society for Medical Mycology, The Canadian College of Microbiologists, and L'Association des Microbiologists du Québec.

   FEPN focuses on issues such as contaminated foods and infected food animals, potable and non-potable water, northern  and aboriginal issues, zoonotic transmission and epidemiology.
