Gonorrhoea & Chlamydia Task Group

This Task Group reports to the Laboratory Standardization Issue Group.

2009-2010 Co-Chairs

Federal – Carole Beaudoin (PHAC/NML)
Provincial - John Wylie (Manitoba)

Background

At the 2008 CPHLN Semi-Annual meeting it was recognized that all provinces managed gonorrhoea and chlamydia specimens and testing differently. This led to the establishment of the Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia (GC) Task Group as an effort to manage the standardization of gonorrhoea and chlamydia testing in Canada.

Mission

The purpose of the GC Task Group to standardize testing, specimen handling, and reporting criteria for gonorrhoea and chlamydia as well as to establish roles and responsibilities for these tasks.

2009-2010 Priorities

The GC Task Group has identified three priorities to address during the 2009-2010 cycle:
  • The development of laboratory standards and protocols for Adaptive Multi-Rate (AMR) testing
  • Identification of current laboratory/clinical activities at the provincial level
  • Acquisition of current protocols for laboratory/clinical activities.
