The CPHLN recognizes the responsibility of public health laboratories to safeguard public health through the provision of surveillance and response capabilities which serve as a cornerstone for all public health professionals.
Our vision demonstrates the potential of CPHLN and our mission clarifies our purpose. Our guiding principles and mandate steer our efforts to effectively fulfill our day-to-day mission while realizing our long-term vision of success.
Vision
Be an action-oriented national public health laboratory network that provides valuable advice and services which form the foundation for the broader public health system.
Mission
To provide leadership and consultation in all aspects of the public health system through the continued development of a proactive network of public health laboratories to protect and improve the health of the people of Canada.
Goals
- To develop a national standard for laboratory procedures and quality assurance methods
- To create and maintain a coordinated national laboratory response network
- Expand training available to member organizations regarding protocols, best practices and emerging technologies
- Enhanced national capability regarding the detection of emerging pathogens, antibiotic resistant organisms and outbreaks, and the prevention and control of infectious diseases
- Reduced duplication of effort
- Enhanced support for laboratories through increased collaboration
Guiding Principles
Our guiding principles are:

Mandate
The CPHLN’s mandate is to ensure early detection of infectious diseases and facilitate a timely, co-ordinated response through the Canada-wide public health laboratory network.
